*Ahem* I just came across a rather handy means of checking whether a car’s been damaged and repaired by an insurance company—without actually paying anything, as you would for a regular HPI check. Just go on AutoTrader, click ‘Private Seller’ and enter the number plate into the ‘Create your ad’ field. When you get to the stage where it asks you to enter a price, it’ll pop up a little ‘Cat D/C/B/A’ on the ‘Your ad’ preview:
